Aamir Khan Returns with ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ — An Emotional Comeback After a Long Break

In South Indian cinema, legends like Kamal Haasan are celebrated for choosing diverse and unconventional roles. Similarly, in Bollywood, Aamir Khan has carved a niche for himself with his unique storytelling choices and commitment to performance. From physically transforming himself into a wrestler in Dangal to portraying a determined father who pushes his daughters to achieve global success, Aamir impressed audiences worldwide. Dangal didn’t just win hearts — it also showcased the power of Indian cinema by entering the coveted ₹2000 crore global box office club.

However, in recent years, things haven’t been smooth for the experimental star. His ambitious remake of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump, titled Laal Singh Chaddha, failed to meet expectations. Despite a massive ₹180 crore budget, the film managed to earn only around ₹130 crore, marking it as one of the biggest box office disappointments of his career.

Now, after more than two years of silence, Aamir Khan is all set to make a strong comeback with Sitaare Zameen Par, a Hindi adaptation of the Spanish film Champions. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the film also stars Genelia D’Souza in a lead role and is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 20 in both Hindi and Telugu.

The recently released Telugu trailer has already created a buzz. Aamir plays a short-tempered basketball coach who gets into legal trouble for a DUI incident. As punishment, a judge orders him to coach a team of children with intellectual disabilities for three months. Reluctant at first, he eventually connects with the kids, facing emotional challenges and unexpected moments that transform his perspective on life.

The trailer hints at a heartfelt narrative filled with emotional highs and powerful performances. With Aamir Khan known for his intense commitment to meaningful cinema, fans and critics alike are hopeful that this film will bring him back into box office success. Interestingly, Aamir has also confirmed that the movie will release on OTT platforms only eight weeks after its theatrical run. Exclusive celebrity screenings held recently have already received positive feedback, adding to the growing excitement.

With Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan seems ready to once again touch hearts and make waves in the film industry.
