Promoted with references to the iconic Nayagan, Thug Life was expected to be a major success but turned out to be a commercial disappointment. The film wasn’t released in Kannada, and even in Telugu, the openings were underwhelming. However, Kamal Haasan’s performance was one of the few aspects that received praise from audiences and critics alike.
Lately, Kamal Haasan has not only been focusing on his own acting ventures but also producing films with other leading actors. As part of this new direction, he's reportedly gearing up to produce a film featuring Tamil superstar Suriya. The two have already shared screen space—Suriya made a strong impact with his cameo as Rolex in Vikram, a role that became one of the highlights of the movie. At the time, Kamal had hinted that he would definitely work on a full-length project with Suriya in the future, and now that promise seems to be taking shape.
According to reports circulating in Tamil film circles, a film centered around the character Rolex is in the works under Kamal Haasan’s production banner. Although it may not take off this year, sources suggest the project is likely to begin sometime next year. Director Arun Kumar, who has already proven his mettle in Tamil cinema, is expected to helm this film. Apparently, Suriya was impressed with the story pitched by Arun Kumar, prompting Kamal Haasan to back the film as a producer.
There is also speculation that Kamal Haasan might appear in a key role or even a small but impactful cameo in this film, depending on how the script shapes up. In recent times, Kamal has shown interest in playing strong supporting roles in other actors' movies, as seen in his brief appearance in Kalki. With his growing flexibility as both a star and producer, the chances of seeing him share screen space with Suriya once again seem promising.
Currently, Suriya is working on a film directed by Balaji and will follow it up with a project under Venky Atluri. After these commitments, he is expected to collaborate with Kamal Haasan and Arun Kumar for their upcoming venture.
