The case involving YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested on allegations of sharing sensitive information related to India with Pakistani intelligence agencies, has sparked a major political controversy in Kerala. The BJP has launched a scathing attack, alleging that the Kerala Tourism Department—headed by P.A. Mohammed Riyas, the state’s Tourism Minister and son-in-law of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan—had funded Jyoti Malhotra’s visit to Kerala.
Jyoti Malhotra, a travel blogger and YouTuber, runs the channel 'Travel with Jo'. During her 2023 visit to Pakistan, she met Danish, an official from the Pakistan High Commission. Later investigations revealed that she had links with representatives of Pakistani intelligence agencies. During 'Operation Sindoor', it came to light that Jyoti had communicated with Danish. Following this, she was arrested, and officials from the NIA and Intelligence Bureau interrogated her. While no evidence has emerged so far linking her to terrorist organizations or activities, officials confirmed that she had engaged in deliberate communications with Pakistani intelligence officers.
In a related case, a man named Qasim was arrested for allegedly supplying Indian mobile SIM cards to agents of Pakistani intelligence agencies. A video interview he gave during a recent visit to Pakistan has surfaced. In the video, the anchor welcomes him back to Pakistan and asks how he feels returning. Qasim replies, “It feels like coming back home,” adding that he has received a lot of love and affection there, which is why he returned. His brother, Haseen, was also arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan.
